Speech and Language Resources to Improve Communication Skills

All of these speech and language resources are designed to improve communication skills. The ability to communicate with others is a key part of our lives. These teacher-made speech and language resources are the ideal tool to improve speech, language and communication skills in young learners. Communication skills allow kids to express their thoughts, feelings and needs to others which improves their social skills and wellbeing - two key factors in any young persons' development. These speech and language resources will also help learners to progress academically and professionally by giving them the tools to communicate effectively in different situations. 

Helpful resources for Speech, Language and Communication Needs

When it comes to communication, it’s important to note that communication skills aren’t always directing linked with speech. We communicate in a number of ways, such as body language, facial expressions, written and sign language.

With that in mind, here are some of our favourite resources in this category that you may find useful:

• ‘Why’ and ‘Because’ Question Scene Cards - this engaging resource offers a set of 7 ‘why’ questions with a selection of multiple choice picture answers. It has been designed by our team of experienced teachers and talented illustrators to support and develop the understanding of the question word ‘why’. This resource is ideal for autistic children, EAL learners, students with language a language delay/condition and others with varying abilities.
• Emotions - Class Chart Display Pack - as we mentioned, facial expressions are an important form of communication. Use this fantastic display pack to help children express their emotions and better recognise the emotions of others. The pack contains emotions cards with and without descriptions to allow for differentiated tasks.
